IPL 2025 Mega Auction: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is fast approaching, and Mumbai Indians are poised to make significant changes to their squad. After a disappointing IPL 2024 season, the five-time champions are looking to bolster their lineup with fresh talent. Here are five players Mumbai Indians may bid for in the upcoming auction:

Manoj Bhandage

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Manoj Bhandage has caught the attention of Mumbai Indians with his impressive all-round skills. The 25-year-old’s ability to bat aggressively and deliver crucial breakthroughs with the ball makes him an attractive option. Bhandage’s domestic record, including a memorable 44* off 13 balls in the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2024 Final, showcases his potential. Bhandage will also provide a depth in the playing XI or even act as a backup to Hardik Pandya.

Glenn Maxwell might return to Mumbai Indians during IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Australian powerhouse Glenn Maxwell is likely to be one of the most sought-after players in the auction. His performance for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have not been satisfying yet. Maxwell was with the Mumbai team in IPL 2013 in his early days of his IPL career. Mumbai Indians might bid aggressively for the experienced all-rounder, who brings a unique combination of batting prowess and off-spin expertise. Maxwell could take advantage of the batting conditions at the Wankhede stadium and also bowl some crucial spin bowling overs.

Heinrich Klaasen

South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen is another player on Mumbai Indians’ radar. Klaasen had a great season with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are likely to find it difficult to retain Klaasen. In case only 4 retentions is allowed, the team is likely to prefer Pat Cummins and Travis Head over Klaasen, which could see the South African in the mega auction.

Phil Salt

English opener Phil Salt has been making waves in international cricket and in the IPL with his explosive batting, which helped the Kolkata Knight Riders to win their 3rd IPL Trophy. But, with restrictions on number of players a team can retain, Kolkata Knight Riders might have to see Phil Salt go into the auction with Andre Russell and Sunil Narine likely to be preferred overseas retentions.

Mumbai Indians might bid for Salt to bolster their top order, which struggled in IPL 2024. And with the rumors of former captain Rohit Sharma likely to leave, Salt’s ability to provide rapid starts and dominate opposition bowlers could be the perfect replacement Mumbai’s 5-times IPL winning captain.

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc also played a key role in guiding the Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to their 3rd IPL trophy. Despite starting off quite off the pace, Starc brought his original version in the games that mattered the most. And just like Phil Salt, Starc is also unlikely to be retained due to restriction on player retention.

The Australian pace bowling powerhouse is expected to be one of the top bowlers in the auction. Mumbai Indians might bid aggressively for Starc, who brings experience, skill, and the ability to deliver under pressure. Starc’s presence would strengthen Mumbai’s bowling attack and provide a much-needed boost to their bowling. And it will be lethal to see the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Starc together.
