2 Players From CSK’s IPL 2025 Squad Who Will Also Play for Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2025 Season
The SA20 2025, South African T20 league, is set to commence from Thursday 9th January 2025 with the opening match of the tournament scheduled between the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the MI Cape Town. The league features a total of 9 teams, including the CSK owned Joburg Super Kings.
There is a huge fan base around the Joburg Super Kings, based out of Johannesburg, with the team owned one of the most successful IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.
The Joburg Super Kings (JSK) reached the semi-final in their first season in 2023 but lost against the eventual champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape. In the second season in 2024, they barely scrapped into the playoffs but this time lost against the Durban Super Giants in the qualifier 2.
They have once again assembled a great squad for the SA20 2025 season and this time, they will be hoping to add that extra effort that take them to the Trophy finally. Joburg have tried to maintain a great connection with its sister team CSK and in this article, we take a look at 2 players who will play CSK in IPL 2025 and are also part of the JSK team in SA20 2025.
Devon Conway
New Zealand’s star left-hand batter Devon Conway will be representing both the Joburg Super Kings and the Chennai Super Kings in the SA20 and IPL 2025 edition. Conway missed the IPL 2024 season due to a thumb injury.
Conway has been a loyal servant of the Chennai Super Kings since joining the side ahead of the IPL 2022 season. Conway has done exceptionally well and as a result, the team brought him back in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
The 33-years-old left-hand opening batter has been a part of the other CSK owned team, the Texas Super Kings in the Major League Cricket (MLC) for two seasons and is now set to play his first season with the Joburg Super Kings in South Africa.
Matheesha Pathirana
The other CSK player who will also be turning out for the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA20 2025 season is the Sri Lanka slingy pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana. Pathirana has been a huge part of the CSK set-up in the IPL since joining the side after impressing in the U19 World Cup.
In the IPL 2024 season, his third season with the franchise, the Sri Lankan pacer picked 13 wickets in 6 matches with an economy rate of 7.68. He will now also be turning out for the Joburg Super Kings.
Pathirana has mostly played in the International League T20 (ILT20) during the January window as both the leagues are played simultaneously. But this time, CSK and team management has managed to convince the Sri Lankan pacer to play in SA20 league. This will be his first season in the South African T20 league.
