It has been only two months since the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) asserted their dominance over the Sunrisers Hyderabad and won their 3rd Indian Premier League (IPL) Trophy, but the fans are already excited for the IPL 2025 season. The IPL 2025 will be a refreshed season where teams are expected to have several new faces due to the upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction likely to be held later this year.

There is already much debate about the number of players a team can retain before the Mega Auction with 5 to 6 retentions being the talk of the town. There is also much debate about the RTM (Right To Match) card, whether it should be part of the auction or not. Fans have already started speculating about potential transfers and movement with former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma the center of attention.

Rohit Sharma guided the Indian cricket team to the T20 World Cup Trophy last month. But since then, there has been a lot of discussion about what’s the future holds for former Mumbai Indians captain. Rohit Sharma was sacked from captaincy by Mumbai Indians after bringing back former all-rounder Hardik Pandya in a swap deal.

However, it was a lackluster season for the Mumbai Indians and it is believed that Rohit Sharma is not happy with Mumbai Indians management and is considering leaving the team and might enter the IPL 2024 Mega Auction. In that case, there could be huge demand for the now former Indian T20I captain in the Auction. Today in this article, we take a look at teams who might go all-out to get Rohit Sharma in their team as the captain.

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) could the first team in the fray. Although the Super Giants have KL Rahul as their captain, there are rumours that the Indian cricket team’s wicketkeeper batter could be on the way out. During the IPL 2024 season, a video clip surfaced where LSG owner was seen having an intense chat with KL. If do end up leaving the side, Lucknow Super Giants will go all out to get the Indian T20 World Cup winning captain onboard.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings could be another team in the race for the former India captain, who has now retired from International T20I. Punjab Kings have had difficulty with getting a good captain. Under the leadership of George Bailey, they reached the IPL 2014 Final, that they lost to KKR, but since then, they have struggled with finding a perfect captain. Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran have recently been the team’s captain. There is no doubt that Punjab Kings will go all out to get Rohit Sharma.

Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals could be an out of the book option. Since their captain Shreyas Iyer left, under whom they played a Final, Delhi Capitals have been struggling to get consistent result under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, who also missed a season due to car accident. Now going into the 2025 season, there are rumours that the Chennai Super Kings have contacted Pant to join the Chennai based team. According to reports, Delhi Capitals tried to sign Rohit Sharma last season itself but was turned down. In that case, if Delhi Capitals let’s Pant go, Delhi Capitals might also go all out to get Sharma in.

Note that, the above mentioned teams are just a speculation and there is no guarantee that these teams will bid for Rohit Sharma, or Rohit Sharma will leave Mumbai Indians.
