Chennai Super Kings’ batting all-rounder, Rachin Ravindra suffered a nasty eye injury in the Tri-series opener against Pakistan on Saturday. The incident took place during the 38th over of the game when Khushdil Shah tried a slog sweep against Michael Bracewell.

The ball went straight to Rachin Ravindra who tried to take the catch. However, the Kiwi all-rounder misjudged the ball which ended up getting hit on his eyes. The talented cricketer had to walk off as he got heavy bleeding from his eyes. However, New Zealand ended the game, defeating Pakistan by a margin of 78 runs.

However, it will be a huge loss for New Zealand and for Chennai Super Kings as well. After getting to know the incident, the Chennai-based franchise will be keen to find a replacement who can perfectly fit into his place. Hence, in this article, we are going to see the five players who could be a possible replacement for the Kiwi cricketer ahead of IPL 2025.

5. Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis, who was released by Mumbai Indians went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. He took the cricketing world by storm with him U-19 World Cup dominance. Mumbai Indians showed interest in this lad but his lack of consistency with the bat forced them to release him before the auction.

But in SA20 2025 tournament, Dewald Brevis has been brilliant with the bat as he amassed 291 runs in 12 games that he played at an average of well around 49. He can flex his batting position which will make him as a perfect replacement for the side.

4. Mitchell Owen

Mitchell Owen could also be considered as one of the possible replacements for Rachin Ravindra ahead of this cash-rich tournament. The left-handed batsman has been the top run-getter in the recently concluded Big Bash League.

Representing Hobart Hurricanes, he aggregated 452 runs from 11 games, including the match-winning knock of 108 in the final against Sydney Thunders. Being unlucky as he performed after IPL 2025 auction, now the 23-year-old has the chance to make it in the competition to represent Chennai Super Kings.

3. Joe Root

The English cricketer, Joe Root will be a great option for CSK ahead of IPL 2025. The right-handed batter has done well in the recent SA20 2025 competition, scoring 279 runs that he played at an average of well above 55.

He could play an anchor role in the top-order, likewise KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. His stability to get runs at across all conditions makes him a better choice for Chennai Super Kings.

2. Lhuan-dre Pretorius

The South African sensation, Lhuan-dre Pretorius caught the headlines with his stunning performance in the SA20 2025 tournament. The young lad featured 12 matches for Paarl Royals as he plundered 397 runs at an average of 33.07.

He was the leading run-getter in the tournament as CSK might me looking to rope the 18-year-old who can fill the role of Rachin Ravindra at the top-order.

1. David Warner

Without any doubt, David Warner could fit into the CSK’s setup. After being unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, David Warner looked in great shape during the BBL 2025.

He was the second-highest run-scorer in the league as the 38-year-old smoked 405 runs at an average of 45, including 3 fifties to his name. Hence, we can expect the former Australian cricketer to don the yellow jersey again, but this time it’s for Chennai Super Kings.
