Aakash Chopra says Virat Kohli’s aggressive attitude caused his poor performance in T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian cricketer and analyst discussed Virat Kohli’s struggles in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Kohli had an outstanding IPL 2024 season as an opener but failed to continue his form in the World Cup. He has only scored 29 runs in four matches since being promoted to opener for Team India. This poor performance is surprising given his status as one of the world’s best players and the all-time leading run-scorer in T20 World Cups.
Despite Kohli’s struggles, the Indian team is performing well and is close to reaching the semifinals. India needs just one more win to secure a spot in the semifinals and hopes to achieve this by beating Bangladesh. The match is their second Super-8 game and will be held on Saturday, June 22. It will take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “The main reason is the New York pitch. Batting has been difficult there, and Kohli decided to play aggressively no matter what. He faces more internal challenges than external ones. When you reach the level of Tendulkar, Kohli, Lara, Richards, you create challenges for yourself to stay motivated.”
Chopra highlighted that the New York pitch required cautious batting, but Kohli stuck to his aggressive style. This approach was clear in his game against Afghanistan. However, Chopra hopes Kohli will recover his form against Bangladesh. Chopra concluded, “Virat chose to play his way, focusing on mindset rather than conditions and technique.”
Chopra added that Kohli’s lack of runs, despite good IPL form, showed in the Afghanistan game. “We hope he finds his rhythm tonight against Bangladesh,” Chopra said. This expectation reflects the hope of fans and analysts alike. Everyone is looking forward to seeing Kohli back in his best form soon.
