Former Indian cricket team opening batter Virender Sehwag has asked Rohit Sharma to retire from IPL soon as his struggles in the IPL 2025 season continues after another disappointing performance vs SRH in the last match.

Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been having a below average IPL 2025 campaign so far where he has failed in every match for the MI franchise.

In the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rohit got off to a good start where he scored 26 runs off 16 balls in pursuit of 163 target. However, just like many other matches, he once again throw away his wicket.

This has been a constant for the former India T20I captain as Rohit Sharma has managed to accumulate only 82 runs in 6 innings in the IPL 2025 season. Now after his recent failure vs SRH, former India opener Virender Sehwag has urged Rohit Sharma to hang his boots.

At a live show on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag stated that it’s time for Rohit Sharma to retire, “Ab uska jaane ka time aa gaya, (It’s already time for him to retire), and before retiring, you would want to give fans something to remember you by, and not moments that force them to think, why are they not dropping him.”

Sehwag also questioned one of the most successful IPL captain Rohit Sharma’s numbers in the last 10 editions of the IPL. He added, “If you look at Rohit’s IPL numbers in the last 10 years, he scored more than 400 runs only once. So he is not the kind of player who thinks that I need to score 500 or 700 runs.”

“When he became the Indian captain, he said that he wanted to be the player who wants to cash in on the powerplay and take the chances, so he wanted to make all the sacrifices alone, but he is not considering the fact that at the end of the day when he is not performing, it is your legacy that is getting hurt,” he continued.

Mumbai Indians getting back on track in IPL 2025

Meanwhile, it was a horrible start to the season for the Mumbai Indians, losing 4 out of their first 5 matches of the season. The only win came in their third match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) where the Kolkata team’s batting collapsed.

However, they seem to be getting back on the track at the right time of the season for the 5 times champions. In their last 2 matches of the season, Mumbai Indians have beaten Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mumbai.

The next challenge awaits for them in the form of their arch-rival Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday in Mumbai. It was CSK who won the earlier leg played between the two teams in Chennai.
