Days after being sacked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from assistant coach role in the Indian cricket team, Abhishek Nayar has joined with the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025.
Kolkata Knight Riders made an official announcement on their social media handles with the captions, “Welcome Back Home”. Abhishek Nayar who was considered as one of the finest all-rounders has rejoined the forces and his role in the side is yet to be confirmed by the franchise.
However, before reuniting with Kolkata Knight Riders, Abhishek Nayar was the assistant coach of the Indian cricket team alongside Gautam Gambhir. He has already been spotted in training at the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp.

But after a shocking loss against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series, the former Indian all-rounder was terminated by the BCCI.
Along with him, trainer Soham Desai and fans favourite T Dilip, the fielding coach of India has also dropped from their respective roles. While a lot of reports claimed that Abhishek Nayar was removed after India’s poor performance in the BGT, PTI has come up with an interesting statement.
“Just after the tour of Australia, there was a review meeting conducted by the BCCI. The top officials of the board, including secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajiv Shukla were present along with important members associated with the Indian team, and the national selectors,” the report reads.
“While the BCCI didn’t act immediately, but they brought in Kotak, the former Saurashtra run accumulator. It was a way of side-lining (Abhishek) Nayar during the Champions Trophy.”
However, after joining with Kolkata Knight Riders, Abhishek Nayar will look forward to improving their performance in the upcoming games. The defending champions are currently positioned at the sixth position with 3 wins from seven games they played in this tournament so far.
