All the Different Colour Jerseys RCB Played Wearing in IPL and What It Means?

The Royals Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is one of the eight founding member of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and in-fact they were part of the grand opening match of IPL where they suffered a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

RCB have been a part of the IPL for 18 years now and they are yet to win the title once. However, the franchise has one of the biggest fanbase in the tournament and they have always been on the headline during an IPL season for various reasons. And one of the reason is that during their 18 years in the IPL, they have unveiled some great looking jerseys.

As the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) today take the field wearing a green jersey vs the Rajasthan Royals, we take a look at some of the special jerseys RCB have played in the IPL overs the years.

Traditional Red Jersey

The Royals Challengers Bengaluru’s traditional jersey is their red jersey that they have been wearing and playing all of the 18 seasons of the IPL. Over the year, they have used different shades of red and making a combination with different colour shades.

In the starting years of the IPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru used to have a lot of red and a bit of gold to go with it. That became an instant among the fans. They continued to use that colour combination from the inaugural season in 2008 till 2010.

In 2011, they made a bit tweak to their jersey and added a shade of blue alongwith the the red and gold. They then changed it a lot more in 2016 when they unveiled a red and black shade jersey, which they used for the longest of them all till the year 2023.

But in 2024, RCB decided to play with their jersey colour combination again. The Bengaluru based side replaced the black shade with the shade of blue to with the traditional Red colour. The opinions were divided on the same but going into the IPL 2025 season, they reverted back to the black and red shade that they had for the longest.

Green Colour Jersey

The green colour jersey is the traditional one match a season jersey for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The side plays wearing this jersey as part of their “Go Green” campaign to spread awareness about the environment.

They have been doing so for more than a decade now starting in 2011 where they use this green jersey in one selected match every season. The green coloured jersey is completely made of recycled materials.

Blue Colour Jersey

Another special jersey that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) played in and that many fans might not even be aware of is the one-off blue jersey. This jersey was used by RCB as a tribute to the frontline workers during India’s fight with the COVID-19 pandemic.

When the world was shut during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, there were some who were always working for us, the frontline workers who helped the world tackle such situation.

As a tribute to them and pledge to support them, Royal Challengers Bengaluru unveiled a special blue jersey in the IPL 2021 season. The franchise pledged financial assistance for infrastructure related to Oxygen support in India’s fight against the pandemic. RCB also pledged to raise funds through auctioning the special blue jerseys worn by the players.
