Not only the India vs Australia Pink Ball Test match played at the Adelaide Oval delivered some exciting cricket actions on day 1, but we also witnessed some weird instances which the match a bit more spicy.

The opening day of the 2nd Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a Day-Night Pink Ball Test match, was full of action throughout the day’s play. Team India were all out on the opening day but Australia took control of the match by the end of the day’s play.

It was India captain Rohit Sharma who won the toss and opted to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the inning for India. But, it was a bad start for India as Jaiswal was dismissed on the first ball of the match.

Then KL Rahul and Shubman Gill formed a 69 runs partnership. As soon as KL Rahul departed, the floodgates opened as India’s batting order collapsed with star players like Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, playing in middle-order, failed to deliver.

India were all-out for 180 runs in two sessions. Coming to Australia’s inning, although the Aussies lost the wicket of Usman Khawaja, both Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuchagne held on till the end of Day 1 with Australia having 86 runs on the board for the loss of 1 wicket and trail India by 94 runs.

But, other than some exciting cricketing stuff that transpired during the entire day’s play, we also witnessed some weird stuffs during the play.

KL Rahul given out but was a no ball, snick-o-meter confirmed no edge

The first notable thing that happened during the Day 1 was Indian batter KL Rahul was given out by the on-field umpire for caught behind. However, it was a no ball and Rahul was called back halfway.

Things got even more exciting when it was later confirmed by the snick-o-meter that there was no edge and KL Rahul had no idea about the same as he was already walking off without even talking to his partner Shubman Gill on the non-striker end.

It was also quite unusual that Rahul couldn’t say that whether the ball edged his bat or not as normally batters are able to say whether a ball has edged or not. But, Rahul was lucky it was no ball and there we no further consequences.

Floodlights failures

As the Pink Ball Test match was a Day and Night Test match, a portion of the match was played under the lights, which normally is not seen in Test in cricket as it is mostly played under day-light.

Meanwhile, during Australia’s inning, we witness the floodlights failed twice in a single over. It was during the 18th over of the inning, bowled by Harshit. The floodlights failed for the first time for a moment after the 2nd ball of the over.

It went off again after the 4th ball of the over. This is quite unusual and bowler Harshit Rana was not pleased with it at all as it brought break in play and break the momentum of the over and the game.

A man running past the sight screen with a pipe distract the batter

Probably the most funny and exciting incident of the day unfolded towards the very last moments of the match that made the crowds and social media laugh out loud.

After the floodlights failures stopped the match, the match was once again interrupted after couple of overs when a man was running past the sight screen behind the bowler holding a pipe of cups which distracted the batter Marnus Labuchagne.

Mohammed Siraj was not quite happy with it and he actually threw the ball towards Labuchagne, who tried to explain to Siraj. Eventually the game continued when the man passed the sight screen.
