South African pace-bowling legend, Allan Donald, has suggested the possible expansion of the SA20 league with the introduction of two new franchises. Currently comprising six teams, the league is in its third season and has shown remarkable growth since its inception. The prospect of expansion is a testament to the league’s increasing popularity and the involvement of Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners.

In a recent development, the SA20 league’s continued success is marked by the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s entry into a third consecutive final, where they will compete against MI Cape Town. This fixture highlights the competitive nature and quality of cricket that the league offers.

Donald alluded to speculation about a new franchise named Royal Challengers Bloemfontein. This rumor, if realized, would further strengthen the league’s connectivity with the IPL, reflecting a strong brand association that could attract international talent and sponsorship.

Moreover, Allan Donald expressed his eagerness to see Indian cricket stars such as Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli participate in the SA20 league. However, he acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), noted as the most influential cricket board globally.

The involvement of Dinesh Karthik, an experienced IPL player, in the SA20 league already exemplifies the level of competition and the league’s draw for high-profile players. Donald hopes that more Indian players will follow suit, enhancing the league’s reputation and appeal.

The SA20 league’s remarkable growth over three seasons underscores its potential as a significant platform for cricket, attracting global fans and promising further expansion. With the third season reaching new heights, the league is poised to become a cornerstone of T20 cricket.
