Argentina’s cricketer Hernan Fennell has made headlines by joining an exclusive group of players to achieve a double hat-trick in Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket. This remarkable accomplishment took place during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Americas Qualifier match against the Cayman Islands, held in Buenos Aires.

Hernan Fennell’s feat makes him one of only six players globally who have secured a double hat-trick in men’s T20I matches. The other elite players who have reached this milestone include Rashid Khan, Lasith Malinga, Curtis Campher, Jason Holder, and Waseem Yaqoobr.

During the match, Fennell took four wickets in four consecutive deliveries in the final over of the Cayman Islands’ innings. His victims in this extraordinary over included Troy Taylor, Alistair Ifill, Ronald Ebanks, and Alessandro Morris, resulting in impressive figures of 5/14.

Double Hat-Tricks for Hernan Fennell

Remarkably, Hernan Fennell has now become the sixth player to achieve multiple hat-tricks in men’s T20I history. He previously recorded a hat-trick against Panama in 2021 during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Region Qualifier. Among the players with more than one T20I hat-trick are Waseem Abbas, Pat Cummins, Mark Pavlovic, Tim Southee, and Lasith Malinga.

Despite Fennell’s stunning performance, Argentina fell short in the match. They were bowled out for just 94 runs in their innings, failing to surpass the Cayman Islands’ score of 116.

This performance by Hernan Fennell not only highlights his exceptional bowling skills but also contributes significantly to the evolving history of T20 International cricket. His double hat-trick secures his place among the legends of the game and underscores the unpredictable and thrilling nature of T20 cricket.
