The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having a miserable season in IPL 2025. With only 2 victories and 8 defeats from 10 games, the five-time champions have been eliminated from the playoff contention, the first team to be knocked out this season.
Ex-India spinner Harbhajan Singh lambasted Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for omitting Ravichandran Ashwin from their playing XI against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 match on April 30. Harbhajan also added that CSK didn’t select their team on the basis of conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 30.
The Super Kings fell to the Punjab Kings by four wickets at home. Ravichandran Ashwin was purchased for ₹9.75 crores in the IPL mega auction. However, the seasoned all-rounder didn’t get enough opportunity, having appeared in only seven matches this season and collecting five wickets.

“Chennai did not select the team based on conditions. Had Noor Ahmad, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja played together against Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings could have won the match. You did not pay Rs 10 crore for Ashwin to bench him. I do not know why he is not playing, but it seems he might have fought with someone.” stated on JioHotstar.
He also mentioned that the franchise has a few underperformers, but only Ashwin was left out. “He is not the only one who has not performed. Others are still playing despite their average performances, but Ashwin is out of the team. He should have played against Punjab, as the ball was spinning,” he further added.
Will Ashwin start in the next match for the Chennai Super Kings against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru? This will be the big question for the CSK’s fans.
