Australia Head Coach Andrew McDonald Provides Update on When Mitchell Marsh Will Start Bowling

Australia cricket team will be out to book their slot into the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, ahead of their game against Namibia in the World Cup 2024, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald expressed optimism about skipper Mitchell Marsh’s potential return to bowling in the upcoming matches.

Australia is set to face Namibia in their third fixture that will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Wednesday. McDonald, a former Australian cricketer, stated that the team management is very hopeful that Marsh will be able to contribute with the ball in the upcoming matches of the tournament.

However, McDonald added that it is very unlikely he’ll bowl against Namibia. He suggested that Marsh’s chances of not bowling could increase upto Scotland match, with an expectation that he should be fully ready by the Super 8s, assuming Australia qualifies. McDonald emphasized that their focus is first on Namibia, after which they can plan for the Super 8s and beyond.

“Very hopeful that he will be back ready to bowl in matches. I’d say the likelihood of that against Namibia, is very slim, potentially increasing into Scotland and then I think you should have a clear run at the Super 8s and be able to bowl there. The assumption there is that we qualify and as I said, Namibia first thing and then we can start to work out what it looks like for the Super 8s and beyond,” the Australian head coach said.

Australia have won first 2 matches of the tournament

Australia began its ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a win against Oman. They beat Oman by 39 runs with David Warner and Marcus Stoinis shining with the bat. Stoinis also contributed with the ball, alongwith the like of Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa.

In their 2nd match, they beat the defending T20 World Champions England. Batting first, Australia posted 201 runs on the board and then restricted England to just 165 runs in their 20 overs to win the match by 36 runs. Australia is currently placed 2nd in the group behind Scotland with 4 points. Scotland have 5 points with 1 extra match played. After Namibia, Australia will take on Scotland on June 16.
