Australia Updated T20 World Cup 2024 Squad Revealed; Jake Fraser-McGurk, Matt Short Included in Reserves

Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the Australia cricket team’s final squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the USA, including Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short as reserves ahead of the May 25 deadline.
The original squad of 15, led by Mitchell Marsh, remains unchanged. The Australian T20 squad, excluding five players currently involved in the IPL 2024 playoffs, will head to Trinidad later this week for warm-up matches against Namibia and the co-hosts West Indies.
Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short Added to Australia T20 World Cup Squad
Jake Fraser-McGurk has seen a significant rise in his profile as a white-ball batter over the past year, highlighted by a 29-ball century in the domestic One-Day Cup and impressive performances in the Big Bash League (BBL), ILT20, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Capitals.
“You look at Jake’s form in the IPL – he took that by storm and he was a serious consideration for the final 15,” said Australia head coach Andrew McDonald, as reported by cricket.com.au.
Matt Short, named player of the tournament in the BBL, was selected over injured leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha. McDonald added, “Short’s consistent BBL performance and flashes of brilliance at the international level made him a strong candidate. Both players excel at the top of the order but can be flexible in the batting lineup.”
Australia will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on June 5 against Oman in Barbados. The five players involved in the IPL playoffs will join the squad in Barbados directly after their IPL Playoffs matches are complete.
