Masood became Pakistan’s Test captain after Babar stepped down from captaincy in all formats following last year’s ODI World Cup. was chosen to succeed Babar as the T20I captain.

Shaheen’s brief run as T20I captain ended in April after just one series against New Zealand, where Pakistan lost 4-1. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) then restored Babar as the white-ball captain before the T20 World Cup, calling it a “strategic move.”

However, the PCB’s plan didn’t work out. They brought in Gary Kirsten as the white-ball head coach, but Pakistan crashed out of the tournament in the group stage. They lost their first two games to the USA and India, nearly getting eliminated before managing a convincing win against Canada.
