BBL 2024-2025: Big Bash League Winners List From 2011-2025

The Big Bash League (BBL), also known as the KFC Big Bash League, is currently the second best T20 cricket league around the world after the IPL. The BBL is back with its 14th season that is set to commence on the 15th of December with the Perth Scorchers taking on the Melbourne Stars.

The Australian cricket’s biggest T20 extravaganza begins in about a months time as the Men’s Big Bash League (BBL) kicks-off on the 15th of December. The BBL is the second biggest and popular T20 cricket league in the world after India’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Big Bash League is organised by the Cricket Australia and the first edition was held in the 2011-2012 season. Although that’s not deep enough history as the IPL, that’s still a long history for the BBL.

The Big Bash League consists of a total of 8 teams, Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes and the Perth Scorchers. All the eight teams though, are owned by the Cricket Australia, unlike in India, where every IPL franchise is own various film stars and businessmen.

In this article, we will take a look at history of the Big Bash League (BBL) and look at the winners list since first season in 2011-2012 till last season i.e. 2023-2024 season.

Perth Scorchers is the most successful team in the competition having won the BBL a total of 5 times in the history of the competition. Sydney Sixers is the other team who have managed to dominate the league to win the title 3 times.

The first edition of the tournament, held in the 2011-2012 season, was won by the Sydney Sixers, who beat the Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground to win the inaugural edition of the league.

Perth Scorchers have won the league twice on two different stints. They won the league back-to-back first during the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 season. They repeated the history once again in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 season, winning it back-to-back again. The other time that they won the league was back in 2016-2017 season.

The other teams to win the Big Bash League (WBBL) includes the Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades. Last season, i.e. BBL 2023-2024 season, was won by the Brisbane Heat, who won the league after a long gap of more than a decade since winning the league in the second edition in 2012-2013 season.
