BBL 2024-2025: Fastest Century in Big Bash League History

Cricket fever is set to hit down under as the Australian cricket fans and fans worldwide awaits the 14th season of the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-2025 season, commencing on the 15th of December, 2024 as the Perth Scorchers take on the Melbourne Stars in the opening match of the season.
Cricket Australia organised Big Bash League (BBL) has gained a worldwide reputation as one of the best T20 cricket league in the world alongside the Indian Premier League (IPL)
The Big Bash League’s first season was held in 2011-2012 and over the years, we have seen some of the top notch Australian players emerge through the league. The BBL has become quite an attraction for the overseas players as well. Players from all around the world takes part in the BBL to showcase their talent.
Despite the league was founded 4 years after the Indian Premier League (IPL), the league has a long history and several big name players have played in the league and scored runs for fun. Today, we take a look at the list top 5 fastest century in the Big Bash League (BBL) history.
Mitchell Owen – 39 Balls Century in 2025
Hobart Hurricanes’ Mitchell Owen became the latest member to join the elite list of fastest BBL century in the history. And it couldn’t have been a better occasion than the BBL 2024-2025 final match. Chasing a target of 183 runs against the Sydney Thunder, Mitchell Owen completed his century off just 39 balls, scoring 108 runs in the inning. He hit 6 fours and 11 sixes throughout his inning to help his team win the BBL 2024-2025 final.

Craig Simmons – 39 Balls Century in 2014
The record for joint-fastest ever century in the Big Bash League (BBL) currently belongs to former Australian cricketer Craig Simmons. Simmons did this back in the year 2014 when his team Perth Scorchers faced-off against his future team Adelaide Strikers on 16 January, 2014.

Batting first, Perth Scorchers scored 203 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, mostly thanks to a brilliant inning of 102 runs of 41 balls from Craig Simmons. Simmons completed his century of just 39 balls and eventually the Scorchers won the match by 5 runs with Simmons being named Player of the Match.
Glenn Maxwell – 41 Balls Century in 2022
Glenn Maxwell is a very well recognised name in the world of cricket. The Aussie all-rounder has garnered name for himself with his performance for the Australian team and performance in the BBL. He is the joint second fastest in century scored in BBL.
Maxwell did so in the year 2022 while playing for the Melbourne Stars against Hobart Hurricanes. It was on 19 January that Glenn Maxwell’s mammoth 154 runs unbeaten inning of 64 balls made a headline. In process, he scored his century of just 41 balls. Stars put 273 runs on the board for this match and eventually won the match with Maxwell named Player of the Match.
Josh Brown – 41 Balls Century in 2024
You don’t have to go deep down in the memory lane for this. The joint second fastest century in the Big Bash League (BBL) belongs to Josh Brown. A name that not a lot of cricket fans are familiar of. Brisbane Heat picked-up their man from a local competition made him a star that season.
Josh Brown also completed his century of 41 balls like Glenn Maxwell. He scored 140 runs of 57 balls to help Brisbane Heat put 214 runs on the board and eventually they won the match by 54 runs with Brown named Player of the Match.
Luke Wright – 44 Balls Century in 2012
Many cricket fans around the world would certainly remember English batter Luke Wright, who was one of the most dangerous batter in the shortest format around that time. Wright displayed his quality in the first edition of the BBL, scoring a century of just 44 balls vs Hobart Hurricanes.
While playing for the Melbourne Stars, Luke Wright scored 117 runs of 60 balls and completed his century of just 44 balls. That helped the Stars to put 203 runs on the board while batting first. Eventually, that enabled the Stars to win the match by 19 runs with Wright being named the Player of the Match.
Ben McDermott – 47 Balls Century in 2017
Next in line is the Australian left-hand batter Ben McDermott. At his younger-self, Ben McDermott was a great player in the Big Bash League and he displayed his class with the bat in 2017 in the match against Melbourne Renegades.
Chasing a target of 223 runs, Ben McDermott scored 114 runs of 52 balls while batting at number 3. That included his century of just 47 balls, which eventually helped the Hobart Hurricanes to win the match of the last ball with McDermott named as Player of the Match.
Callum Ferguson – 48 Balls Century in 2019
Next batter in the list is the South Australian batter Callum Ferguson. Representing the Sydney Thunder, Ferguson played a pivotal knock in the match 41 of the BBL in 2019 to guide the Thunder to victory in the last over.
Callum Ferguson remained unbeaten after scoring 113 runs of 53 balls that included a century of 48 balls. Eventually, Ferguson was named the Player of the Match for his performance that helped the Thunder win the match.
Matthew Wade – 48 Balls Century in 2020
Next in the list is Matthew Wade, who scored the joint fifth fastest century in the Big Bash League (BBL) history so far. The veteran Australian wicket-keeper batter did so in the year 2020 while representing the Hobart Hurricanes.
In the match 55 of the season, Matthew Wade scored blistering century of just 48 balls and went on to score 130 runs of 61 balls that helped the Hurricanes post 217 runs on the board. While their opponent Adelaide Strikers came close to it, the Hurricanes eventually won the match by 10 runs with Wade awarded Player of the Match.
