BBL Star Player Joins Punjab Kings for the Remaining IPL 2025 Season

In a major breakthrough, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have appointed Australian player Mitchell Owen as the injury replacement for Glenn Maxwell for the current IPL 2025 season. The Indian Premier League has confirmed the appointment in an official update on its X handle.
On Sunday, Punjab Kings named Australian starlet Mitchell Owen as the alternate for his experienced player and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was recently ruled out for the IPL 2025 campaign due to injury.
The 23-year-old will have to make the quick trip from his current Pakistan outpost, as he last played for Peshawar Zalmi on Friday in Lahore.
Maxwell’s Injury Replacement For Punjab Kings
Maxwell’s tournament outing with the bat did not go well; he scored only 48 runs off six innings but added value in terms of taking four wickets in the tournament so far by using his off-spin. Then, PBKS would look to welcome some fireworks from the uncapped Australian all-rounder Owen.
Mitch Owen is a bright young talent and arrives with strong T20 credentials behind him. PBKS signed him for INR 3 crore as they look to bolster their strength ahead of the key matches at hand in the current IPL 2025.

Owen shattered the record books with a 39-ball century, matching Craig Simmons’ 39-ball ton from BBL 03. Owen smashed the batting records in BBL 14, hitting 452 runs, featuring two centuries, in 11 games.
Mitchell Owen was a key member of Peshawar Zalmi during the PSL 2025 season before being selected by the Kings. The powerful right-handed hitter scored 101 runs in six innings, with a strike rate of 198.04.
