BCCI to Announce India Squad for England Tests

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce the squad for the upcoming five-test series against England. According to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, the announcement will be made in two weeks’ time. The selection committee, led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, will deliberate on the inclusion of players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, whose participation remains undecided.
India’s tour of England will kick off the new World Test Championship cycle, with the Test series scheduled to run from June 20 to August 4, 2025. The matches are set to take place at renowned venues including Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Emirates Old Trafford, and The Kia Oval.
Before the test series, India plans to send an A-team to play against the England Lions in three four-day matches starting May 30. Several regular Test players may join this tour and are expected to leave for England by May 25.
Recent performances during the 2024-25 season suggest mixed fortunes for senior players. Rohit Sharma managed to score only 164 runs in eight matches and sat out the fifth Test in Australia. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, started the season with a century in Perth but subsequently accumulated only 85 runs over the last four Tests.
Head Coach Gautam Gambhir emphasized that team selection would be performance-based, allowing players to remain in the team as long as they perform.
India’s recent test history includes a 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand on home soil, and a 1-3 loss in Australia, which sets a challenging context for the forthcoming England tour. As the anticipation builds, all eyes will be on the selectors’ decisions and the impending squad announcement.
