Big blow for Punjab Kings: Star Fast Bowler Ruled Out of the IPL 2025

Punjab Kings have been faced with a big blow in the mid-season, with fast bowler Lockie Ferguson most probably ruled out of IPL 2025. There are very few chances of his return for the remainder of IPL 2025. As we know, Ferguson walked off the ground after bowling just two deliveries during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 15. While the franchise has not specified the exact nature of the injury, early indications suggest it could be a significant muscle strain. But now, Punjab Kings‘ fast bowling coach, James Hopes, gives an update on Ferguson’s injury. He confirmed Ferguson’s indefinite absence, creating a void in Punjab’s pace attack. Moreover, he said, “Ferguson is out indefinitely, and us getting him back by the end of the tournament is a very low percentage. I think he’s done a real decent injury to himself.”
IPL 2025 has started well for Punjab Kings; they are still in the sixth position with three wins in five matches. Lockie Ferguson also did well with his bowling for the Punjab Kings. He took five wickets in 4 appearances in the IPL 2025. Apart from this, he is successful in taking wickets in the middle order and death overs with his bowling. That’s why his injury will be more harmful for the Punjab Kings. However, Punjab Kings still have Australian bowler Xavier Bartlett and Afghanistani all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai present on the team as his replacement. Whereas Indian bowlers Vijay Kumar Vyas and Yash Thakur can try to fill his place.
So far, Punjab Kings have had a good performance in IPL 2025, although they were unable to win despite scoring big in their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. After winning the first two matches, Punjab Kings have now lost two of their last three. Punjab will now play its next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 15 at its home ground, Mullanpur. Now it will be interesting to see how Shreyas Iyer handles the team after Lockie Ferguson’s exit from IPL 2025.
