Amid the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 drama at the Wankhede Stadium, according to a breaking report by RevSportz, India captain Rohit Sharma is set to retire from Test cricket, which has also been confirmed by Rohit himself.

There were reports that Rohit Sharma was set to be dropped from the leadership role during Team India’s upcoming 5 match Test series vs England, set to commence after the IPL 2025 season.

Rohit Sharma took to his official Instagram handle to announce his decision to quit the longest format of the game. But he also reassured the fans that he will continue to play the ODI format after he announced his decision to retire from T20I cricket after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024.

There has been a long discussion as to who will lead the Indian team in the upcoming England series, where the Indian cricket team will play a total of 5 Test matches.

According to reports, the selectors are looking at a long-term option to lead the team as the 2-times finalists wanted to invest on a new captain to lead the side in the next cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC).

It must be noted that Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great end to his Test career. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025, Rohit played in 3 matches and scored only 31 runs with his highest score being 10 runs in the first inning of the 3rd Test.

Rohit was eventually dropped from the team for the 5th Test match with Jasprit Bumrah leading the side.

Rohit has played a total of 67 Test matches for Team India in which he scored 4301 runs with an average of 40.6.

During his reign as the captain of the team, Rohit scored 1254 runs in 24 matches, in which he scored 4 centuries. He played 43 matches when he wasn’t the captain of the side and scored 3047 runs with an average of 46.87 and scored 8 centuries.
