Jasprit Bumrah, India’s fast bowling sensation, has been awarded the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year at the ICC Awards 2024. This recognition caps off a remarkable year for the Indian pacer, who performed exceptionally well across all formats of the game, particularly in Test and T20 cricket.

Bumrah is the fifth Indian cricketer to receive this accolade, joining the ranks of previous Indian winners Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli, who won the award twice in 2017 and 2018. Bumrah’s achievements in the past year underscore his critical role in the Indian cricket team’s success across various tournaments.

In the realm of Test cricket, Bumrah set a historic milestone by becoming the fastest Indian pacer to claim 200 Test wickets, achieving this feat with a bowling average under 20, the best in history. His outstanding skills were further highlighted as he reached a record-breaking 907 points in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings by the end of 2024, marking the highest points ever recorded by an Indian bowler.

Bumrah’s performances in limited-overs cricket were equally impressive, as he was named the Player of the Tournament in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. He captured 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17, with notable performances including a crucial 3-14 against Pakistan and 2-18 in the final against South Africa.

During 2024, Bumrah emerged as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, claiming 71 wickets in 13 matches. He also led the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with 77 wickets, further establishing his dominance in the format.
