Can RCB Still Lose IPL 2025 Playoff Spot Despite Having 17 Points?

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) washed out due to incessant rain throughout the evening, which saw both teams share a point each. As a result, KKR has been eliminated from the playoff race while RCB moved to the top of the table with 17 points.
Meanwhile, despite the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) sitting at the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 17 points, they could still lose the playoff spot. In this article, we take a look at how RCB can be knocked out of the playoff race still.
Can RCB Still Lose IPL 2025 Playoffs Spot?
While 17 points have mostly been enough to go through the playoffs comfortably in the last few seasons, this season has been quite competitive one.
There are still 6 teams alive in the playoff race and 4 teams out of it. With 17 points to their tally, RCB can still finish as low as 5th in the points table. The teams that can still challenge them include Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals. Lucknow Super Giants is the other team that is still in the playoff race, but they can get to a maximum of 16 points.
RCB can only lose the playoff spot if they lose both of their remaining matches. In that case, Gujarat Titans can overtake RCB with one more win to take the top spot. Punjab Kings would be equal on points with RCB if they win their next match, and can overtake them if they win atleast 2 out of 3 matches.
Mumbai Indians, as of writing this has 14 points and if they win both of their remaining matches, they would also overtake RCB.
Delhi Capitals on the other hand have 3 more matches left and if they 2 matches, they will be equal on points, and a better net run rate would take them past RCB. If not, Delhi can still overtake RCB comfortably if they win all 3 matches.
Scenario: RCB Lose Both of Their Remaining Matches
- Gujarat Titans would need one more win to overtake RCB.
- Punjab Kings will be equal on points with RCB if they win at least one match (overtake if better net run rate), and would overtake them if they win at least 2 out of their remaining 3 games.
- Mumbai Indians must win both of their remaining matches to surpass RCB’s points tally.
- Delhi Capitals will be equal on points with RCB with 17 points if they win at least 2 out of remaining 3 matches (overtake if better net run rate), and would overtake RCB comfortably if they win all 3 matches.
