In the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged victorious against Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets. The match took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with CSK successfully chasing the target set by MI.

CSK’s captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, won the toss and opted to bowl first. This strategic decision paid off well for CSK. Gaikwad himself was a key performer in the match, scoring 53 runs, a crucial contribution to the team’s total.

Rachin Ravindra was another standout player for CSK. He hit a six to reach his 50-run milestone in just 42 deliveries, playing a significant role in the team’s successful chase. However, a mix-up on the field led to the unfortunate dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja, who was run out for 17 runs.

MI had a new captain at the helm, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya. Pandya missed the match due to a ban following a slow-over rate violation. Among the notable performances from MI, debutant Vignesh Puthur made a mark by taking two wickets.

Both teams presented a blend of local and international talents. Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult were part of the overseas contingent for MI, while Sam Curran and Nathan Ellis added strength to CSK’s lineup.

MS Dhoni, the former CSK captain, came close to achieving a personal milestone, needing just 19 more runs to become CSK’s top run-scorer in IPL history. Apart from that, he is also six dismissals away from his 200th IPL dismissal.

The successful inaugural match set a positive tone for CSK in IPL 2025, and the team looks forward to building on this momentum in the upcoming matches.
