Dasun Shanaka’s Intensive 5-Day Cricket Journey: A Feat of Endurance

In an impressive display of endurance and skill, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka navigated a grueling schedule of playing three cricket matches for two different teams, across two formats, in different countries all within a span of five days. His outstanding performance included scoring a century and taking a wicket, adding to his notable achievements in the sport.

Shanaka’s journey commenced in the United Arab Emirates where he is part of the Dubai Capitals team in the International League T20 (ILT20) 2025 tournament. On January 28, Shanaka played against Sharjah Warriorz at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Following this match, he traveled to Sri Lanka to participate in a first-class match for the Sinhalese Sports Club against the Moors Sports Club in Colombo. Displaying his batting prowess, Shanaka scored an impressive 123 runs and took a wicket in this match, held between January 31 and February 2.

Upon concluding the first-class match on the morning of February 2, Shanaka swiftly returned to the UAE. Despite the tight travel schedule, he joined the Dubai Capitals once more on the very same day to face the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. In this T20 match, Shanaka contributed significantly to his team’s total score by hitting 34 runs off just 12 balls, helping the Capitals reach 217/4 in their allotted 20 overs. The Dubai Capitals secured a victory as the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders managed only 191/5, falling short by 26 runs.

Thanks to his contributions, Dubai Capitals have accumulated 10 points from nine matches in the ILT20 2025, securing a spot in the playoffs and currently ranking fourth on the points table. Shanaka’s rigorous travel schedule saw him cover a distance of 6,614 kilometers, highlighting his commitment and versatility on the cricket field.

This extended and intensive performance by Dasun Shanaka not only underscored his ability to adapt across different formats and teams but also reinforced his standing as a key player in international cricket circuits.
