DC Triumphs Over LSG in a Thrilling IPL 2025 Opener

The Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a spectacular victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their opening match of the IPL 2025 season held in Vizag. In a high-scoring encounter, DC successfully chased down a daunting target of 210 runs, marking their highest successful chase in IPL history.
In the initial stages of the game, LSG seemed to have the upper hand with opening bowler Shardul Thakur making early breakthroughs, leaving DC struggling at 2/2. However, Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel fought back to stabilize DC’s innings, guiding their team to 65/5.
Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh were standout performers for LSG, contributing significantly to their team’s total. Pooran blasted 75 runs off just 30 balls, including six fours and seven massive sixes, while Marsh supported with a quickfire 72 off 36 balls, which featured six fours and six sixes. Their formidable 87-run partnership turned the tide in LSG’s favor, setting an imposing target.
Despite the formidable total, DC’s lower-order resilience shone through with pivotal contributions from Tristan Stubbs, Vipraj Nigam, and man of the match, Ashutosh Sharma. Their tenacity pushed DC past the 160-run mark, laying the groundwork for a memorable finish.
Ashutosh Sharma then took the reins, playing a crucial role in DC’s thrilling chase. He steered the team from a precarious position of 65/5 to a memorable victory, ultimately sealing the win with an unbeaten half-century, capped by a winning six.
Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav were instrumental in DC’s comeback on the bowling front. Although Starc’s opening spell was costly, he made vital breakthroughs, including the dismissal of Pooran. Kuldeep Yadav was the most economical bowler, taking 2/20, restricting LSG in the later stages of their innings.
This game marked Delhi Capitals‘ first-ever one-wicket victory in IPL history and is only the fifth such result seen in the league. As IPL 2025 progresses, such thrilling matches are sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
