Delhi Capitals Batter Ruled Out of First Half of IPL 2025

In a major blow for the only undefeated team in the IPL 2025 so far (as of writing this), key Delhi Capitals batter Faf du Plessis is likely to be ruled out for remainder of the first half of the tournament after further aggravating his previous injury.
As the Delhi Capitals is currently playing their 5th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the team received major blow as Faf du Plessis, a key player for the team, has been ruled out of the first half of the tournament.
Faf has not been included into the Delhi Capitals playing XI for their match against Mumbai Indians. The South African batter himself revealed that he might have aggravated his unspecified injury by opting to play against his former team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the previous match.
Faf du Plessis was first ruled out of Delhi Capitals’ match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 5. Captain Axar Patel noted at toss that Faf wasn’t fit to play in the next match. But he was miraculously fit to play in the next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 10.
However, after he was dropped from the playing XI for today’s match, Faf du Plessis revealed on the official broadcast that the Delhi Capitals management offered him the opportunity to play only as a batter as an impact Player in the match vs RCB, but him instead who decided to even field in the match.
“Unfortunately, my nature… the boys offered me the chance to play as an impact batsman in the last game but the competent in me wanted to field as well and I regret that decision standing here right now. Unfortunately, today, I’m not wearing the spikes,” Faf said in the official broadcast of the match.
“This is new ground for me where you are trying to be 100% fit but you are not quite there. The competent in you want to get back as soon as possible but playing the patient game. Hopefully, I get that right in the next week and get ready for the back end of the tournament,” the 40-years-old added, still uncertain about his return match.
Faf du Plessis big miss for Delhi Capitals
Meanwhile, this will be a massive blow for the Delhi Capitals. The South African batter is one of the key batter for the Capitals, who in 3 matches he has played, scored 81 runs. He scored 29 runs vs Lucknow Super Giants, 50 runs vs Sunrisers Hyderabad and only 2 runs off 7 balls vs RCB, the match he believe has further aggravated his injury.
