Delhi Capitals have announced the appointment of Matthew Mott as the assistant coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. This strategic move comes as part of the franchise’s aim to secure their inaugural IPL title.

In significant changes to their coaching staff, Hemang Badani has been appointed as the head coach, replacing Ricky Ponting. Venugopal Rao continues his role as the Director of Cricket, and Munaf Patel has been retained as the bowling coach.

Matthew Mott brings a wealth of experience to the Delhi Capitals setup. He has previously worked as an assistant coach with Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Additionally, Mott has an impressive track record on the international stage, having led England’s men’s white-ball team until July 2023, a tenure that included their triumph in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

After completing his stint with England, Mott joined the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League as an assistant coach on a three-year contract. His experience with successful teams is expected to provide valuable insights and strategies to Delhi Capitals as they aim to break their title drought.

The Delhi Capitals are optimistic that Mott’s previous achievements, including his role in Australia women’s cricket team’s World Cup victories, will translate into positive results for the team. The franchise hopes that these strategic changes in their coaching lineup will provide the impetus required to secure their first league title in the upcoming IPL season.
