The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 witnessed its first super over match between the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In an exhilarating game, Delhi Capitals secured victory, maintaining their strong position in the tournament.

In the tightly contested match, both teams ended up with the same score, pushing the game into a super over, a first for the IPL 2025 season. Delhi Capitals, currently sitting second in the standings with four wins from five matches, faced off against the Rajasthan Royals, who are struggling in eighth place with four losses from six matches.

During the super over, Delhi Capitals‘ Mitchell Starc delivered a stunning performance, successfully defending nine runs. Rajasthan Royals sent Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer to bat, but Starc’s exceptional bowling restricted them effectively. For Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs were at the crease in the super over, aiming to secure the required runs.

Earlier in the match, Nitish Rana from Rajasthan Royals was outstanding, hitting a rapid half-century off just 26 balls. However, his impressive innings was halted by Mitchell Starc, who bowled a remarkable inswinging yorker to dismiss him. This crucial wicket was significant in controlling the Royals’ run flow.

KL Rahul also made notable contributions during the regular match play, smashing a four off a delivery by Sandeep Sharma. Meanwhile, the Delhi team’s performance in the tournament has been commendable, especially with a player like Karun Nair, who earned praises from Robin Uthappa for his score of 89 on his IPL return.

Despite Rajasthan Royals’ past defeats, including a recent nine-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and a 58-run defeat against Gujarat Titans, they managed to push the Delhi Capitals to a thrilling conclusion. Nevertheless, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious in the super over, consolidating their position in the IPL 2025 standings.
