The Duleep Trophy is set to kick things off for 2024-2025 Indian domestic cricket season. Players will look to use this an opportunity to maybe find a place for themselves in the Indian cricket team prior to Team India’s upcoming home Test series vs Bangladesh and New Zealand, followed by the big main event of the year, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy vs Australia to cap-off a brilliant year of cricket. Meanwhile, some players will also be looking to use this tournament as a platform to further establish themselves for their state teams ahead of the upcoming domestic competitions.

This year, regular Indian cricket team players, the likes of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma , Kuldeep Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharshan, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Ishan Kishan will be participating, all looking to impress and strengthen their claims for inclusion in the Test squad. The tournament is scheduled to run from September 5 to September 22, with matches taking place in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and Bengaluru.

Unlike previous editions, where the Duleep Trophy was contested in a zonal format with teams representing different regions of India, the 2024-25 season introduces a new structure. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revamped the format, moving away from the zonal system to a four-team setup. The teams, named A, B, C, and D, will compete in a round-robin format. Unlike traditional tournaments with knockout stages, the winner will be determined by the team accumulating the most points by the end of all matches.
