Fastest Centuries in IPL History: Top Players List (2008–2024) – Updated
Obviously, T20 cricket is arguably the hardest format of the game to score a century or rather even half a century for that matter, however, a handful of individuals have achieved this with relative ease in acute time periods. Well, who among the cricketers holds the record for the fastest 100 in IPL.
1. Chris Gayle – 175*(66) vs Pune Warriors India (IPL 2013)
On the 23rd of April, 2013, Chris Gayle, who is fondly referred to as the ‘Universe Boss’, scaled new heights in T20 batting on a whole new level at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a match against the Pune Warriors India (PWI), Gayle made history by scoring the fastest century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he reached the 100 runs hitting only 30 balls.
His inning not only incorporated the greatest amount of runs scored in a particular time period but also turned out to be the most brutal or destructive innings in cricket, where he scored 175 runs off merely 66 balls with 13 boundaries and a staggering 17 sixes!
Match Overview:
The RCB team posted an impressive total of 263 runs and lost 5 wickets, which was the highest total ever recorded in IPL up till then. Unable to cope with the required run rate, the Pune Warriors could only score 133, thus registering a 130-run victory for RCB in the match.
This match kept Gayle’s T20 legend credentials intact and left no cricketing fan in the world without the respect of such a power.
2. Yusuf Pathan – 101(37) vs Mumbai Indians (IPL 2010)
The former (RR) all-rounder, Yusuf Pathan, is one of the few cricketers who amazed fans by holding the record for the fastest hundred in the IPL before Chris Gayle added another feather to his cap in 2013.
On 13th March 2010 as Rajasthan Royals (RR) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) at Brabourne Stadium, RR had a mountain to climb, chasing a target of 213 runs. Things went into a downward spiral as RR lost there wickets for 40 runs in 6.3 overs.
Yusuf Pathan then came in and made sure all was not lost with his aggressive batting. He scored 100 runs from 37 balls and batted like a bullet, hitting nine 4s and eight 6s. His devastating alliance of 107 runs for the 5th wicket with Paras Dogra, who played just to support his innings, kept the hopes of RR alive.
One unfortunate moment came when Pathan was run out in the 18th over, which brought an end to his brilliant knock. His valiant innings, however, proved futile as RR came close but was four runs short of the total scored by MI. However, while the team went down in the match, one of the highlights of the IPL tournament has to be Pathan’s record-scoring innings.
3. David Miller – 101(38) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (IPL 2013)
‘s explosive century during IPL 2013 against Royal Challengers Bangalore was one of the best illustrations containing the “Killer Miller” image. On 6th May 2013, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) were chasing RCB’s target of 191 standing on 64/4 in 9.5 over and were under pressure. It was Miller’s onslaught that tilted the match in Punjab’s favour, completing his hundred in mere 38 balls and providing a fantabulous win to Punjab in mere 18 overs with six wickets in hand.
Impact:
Miller’s innings can humbly be rated as one of the best IPL chases, especially in situations that require reckless batting from individuals, as the team clearly leads to victory, courtesy of the individual.
