India coach Gautam Gambhir has hit back at cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar for taking a dig at the Champions Trophy 2025 prize money. Some time ago, Gavaskar had clarified the difference between Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid by saying that the former coach had refused to take additional prize money. This directly raised questions about Gambhir for taking additional prize money. And that was definitely not a good decision, according to Gavaskar.

After winning the ICC Champions Trophy, the BCCI gave an additional prize money of Rs 58 crore to the entire Indian contingent.

After that, Gavaskar highlighted the difference between Gambhir and Rahul Dravid in a column for Sportstar. Where he said, the former coach refused to take the additional Rs 2.5 crore that Rohit Sharma & Co were getting and divided it equally among his associates and staff members.

In response to that at the ABP 2047 summit, Gambhir said, “It has only been eight months since I took over. If results are not coming, I am fine with criticism. It is people’s job to do that. However, some people have been sitting in the commentary box for 25 years. They question everything I do. They think Indian cricket is their personal property. But Indian cricket is the identity of 140 crore Indians,”.

Moreover, Gautam said, “they questioned my coaching, records, concussion as well as the prize money I got for winning champions trophy. I do not need to tell this country where I left money and where I put it. This country needs to know that these people have been NRI for so many years. They work and earn money from the country but take it outside. I’m an Indian and will be an Indian till my last breath. I will not become an NRI to save tax”

However, Gautam Gambhir refused to name anyone and said that those whose houses are made of glass should think not thousands of times but lakhs of times before throwing stones at others’ houses.

This is not the first time that Sunil Gavaskar has said something about Gautam Gambhir or any big Indian cricketer. He has previously said some harsh things about the Indian Head coaches and senior Indian cricketers. Last year, too, he had raised questions on Virat Kohli’s strike rate during IPL. In response to that, Virat Kohli said that he has never sought approval from anyone as he learnt the art of winning matches for his team on his own.
