Former Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim has claimed that all-rounder Imad Wasim is hiding a long-term knee injury by pretending it’s a rib issue. Imad had recently changed his mind about retiring from international cricket and was picked for the T20 World Cup.

Imad first announced he was retiring from international cricket in November 2023. However, he decided to come back in March after performing very well in the Pakistan Super League. He was then selected for Pakistan’s T20 series against New Zealand and included in the squads for the series against England and Ireland, as well as the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

Imad missed Pakistan’s last T20 match against England because of a suspected rib injury, and this same issue kept him out of the team’s first World Cup match against the USA. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said he had “discomfort in his right rib cage.”

Just one day before Pakistan’s match against India, Imad was declared fit to play. He bowled three overs and gave away 17 runs, while his batting (15 runs off 23 balls) shifted the momentum towards the Indian team that helped team India win by six runs.

Mohammad Wasim Accuses Imad Wasim for Hiding Injury to Play India vs Pakistan

Mohammad Wasim, who was Pakistan’s chief selector from 2020 to December 2022, believes that Imad has been covering up a knee injury.

“He has a knee injury, and he has had that for five years now, which he has been faking it as an rib injury. How can he bowl in the nets with a rib injury, how can he bowl without any fitness test, it shows that there was nothing related to his rib, he has a knee injury which is clear with his on-field performance,” Wasim said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is in dire situation in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Green have lost their first 2 matches of the tournament that includes not only the defeat vs India, but an agonizing defeat to co-host of the tournament USA in their opening, already did the dent.

Pakistan still have 2 matches left against Canada and Ireland on 11th and 16th June respectively. Pakistan is currently four out 5 teams in the Group A with 0 points. They need to win both matches and also hope that India and Ireland beat in their matches.
