After two opening match losses, the chances of Pakistan to qualify in the semi finals seems to be no close. But it is still possible, how? Well we will cover the details around this today here.

After losing to India by six wickets in Dubai, Pakistan is currently placed at the bottom of table in Group A, not just need the next win but also need miracles filled with numerous rare case events to go in their favor. So that they can qualify for the semi finals of this champions trophy.

The hosts of the season set to face exit early from this year’s Champions Trophy season, after they have lost their group stage match against New Zealand in their opening game. Followed by this they again lost to India in Dubai.

Pakistan posted a total of 241 as they were all out, following the innings Indian team batted and easily chased the score posting a total of 244 in just 42.3 overs. Meanwhile, Pakistan has struggled to gain any momentum, suffering back-to-back defeats in the tournament. As the defending champions and hosts, they now find themselves on the verge of elimination.

What does Pakistan need to do to qualify?

The qualifying chances of the team are no longer limited to their own hands.  The power over their qualification now in hands of other teams. On their part, they have to win their final match against Bangladesh which is scheduled to be played on February 27.

Pakistan Qualification scenarios

For Pakistan to qualify, following permutation and combination should work:

  1. Pakistan will need to win their final game against Bangladesh and depend on other results to reach the knockout stage.
  2. In the upcoming matches neither New Zealand nor Bangladesh should secure any win. If any of the teams get a win in their favor the chances for the Greens gets eliminated and they would officially be playing their last match against Bangladesh on 27 February and then will pack for their homes.
  3. If New Zealand lose to both India and Bangladesh, and Pakistan defeat Bangladesh, all three teams will be tied on 2 points each. In this scenario, the team with the best Net Run Rate (NRR) will advance to the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinals alongside India.

Results That Will Lead Pakistan To Semi Finals

  • Bangladesh to defeat New Zealand in Rawalpindi
  • Pakistan to defeat Bangladesh in Rawalpindi
  • India to defeat New Zealand in Dubai
  • Net Run Rate (NRR) factor – If Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh all finish with 2 points each, the team with the superior net run rate will progress to the semifinals.

With their continuous defeats the chances of pakistan to qualify for semi finals are very less. But still they could qualify for the semis berth. The road is definitely tough and has only mathematical chances to make it to  the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinals.

All results are in the hands of other teams, Pakistan can improve its fate only if they secure a dominant win against Bangladesh securing a lead in net run rate. And after that wait for their favorable results from other matches to turn their fortunes around.
