After a disappointing early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan captain admitted the team didn’t play well together, leading to their poor performance. Although they managed a hard-fought win against Ireland in Florida on June 16, their batting struggled.

“The whole team is disheartened,” said Babar. “We didn’t play well as a unit and our loss isn’t due to any single player. As captain, I can’t take the place of every player. There are 11 of us, each with a specific role. We came here to compete in the World Cup, but we struggled to execute our game plan. We need to accept that we didn’t perform well as a team.”

Babar continued, “We reached the finals of the Asia Cup and World Cup and the semi-finals before, but we couldn’t win those times. We take pride in those achievements, but we also accept responsibility for failing to qualify this time. As a captain and a team, we know we didn’t play to our full potential.”

“We didn’t meet our expectations and failed at crucial moments. I take responsibility as a player and captain, and I don’t blame anyone individually. The fault lies with all 15 players. We simply couldn’t play to our potential. But we’ll sit down together to discuss and learn from our mistakes,” he remarked.

Pakistan finished third in the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage. They managed to bounce back with wins against Canada and Ireland in their final two matches, but their exit was sealed when the USA and Ireland match was washed out due to rain on Friday.
