“I Don’t See..” -Gautam Gambhir Finally Opens On Rumours of Potentially Becoming Team India’s Next Head Coach

With rumours that Gautam Gambhir is set to become the Indian cricket team’s next head coach following after the T20 World Cup 2024 currently being held in the West Indies and USA, the former India batter has finally spoken on the matter.
After Gautam Gambhir mentored Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a dominating fashion, there were shouts of many Indian fans urging the BCCI to appoint Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian team, to which seem like the BCCI officials agreed and after IPL 2024 Final, major rumours started coming out that Gautam Gambhir has also applied for the job.
Current Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has already announced that he won’t be renewing his contract after the T20 World Cup 2024 and a new head coach will be in place for the upcoming Zimbabwe series, or the at very least for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.
Gambhir on Becoming Team India’s Next Head Coach
Meanwhile, after weeks of being linked with the Indian cricket team’s boss’ job, Gautam Gambhir has finally spoken on the matter. But the KKR mentor and former Indian opener remained tight lipped when asked about him joining the Indian team as the head coach.
While speaking at an Indian Chambers of Commerce event, Gambhir said that he is not looking at far ahead and that he is happy where he is now after winning the IPL with KKR, “I don’t see that far ahead. You are grilling me, asking me all tough questions. It is difficult to answer right now. All I can say is that I’m happy being here, just finished a brilliant journey (and) let’s enjoy that. I’m in a very happy space right now,” the two times IPL winning captain said.
Gautam Gambhir Had A Successful Stint With KKR
Gautam Gambhir, despite not a head coach but a mentor, played a crucial role in guiding his former team Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL Trophy. Interestingly, the previous two titles were also won by Gautam Gambhir, as the captain of the team then in 2012 and 2014. He made his much awaited return to the KKR setup after being with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for two years.
Gambhir has had a great international career for the Indian cricket team. In fact, he played some crucial knocks for the Indian team when it comes World Cup finals, be it the 2007 T20 World Cup or the 2011 Cricket World Cup, Gautam Gambhir is regarded as one of the most successful cricketer, who later also realised his leadership quality with KKR.
