Young prodigy express Indian pace bowler Umran Malik is gearing up for the Duleep Trophy after recovering from dengue. The domestic red ball tournament is set to begin on September 5, with matches scheduled in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Malik will be representing Team C, which includes notable players like India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, and . The 24-year-old expressed his readiness and optimism for the upcoming tournament, focusing on making a strong comeback.

“I have recovered from dengue and am feeling much better. My focus is now on preparing for the Duleep Trophy. I’m currently working on my comeback at the National Cricket Academy. I hope to bowl well and contribute to my team’s success in the upcoming domestic season,” Umran Malik told ANI.

In the previous domestic season, Malik had a challenging run, taking only four wickets in five matches for Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24. His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was also below par, with just six wickets in seven matches. Additionally, he went wicketless in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, conceding 68 runs in eight overs.

During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Umran Malik played only one game for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he bowled just one over. Despite these setbacks, Malik has represented India in ten ODIs and eight T20Is, where he has taken a total of 24 wickets.

Meanwhile, the Duleep Trophy commences on 5th September with Team A set to take on Team B in Anantpur while Team C will take on Team D, both matches to be played from 9 A.M Indian Standard Time (IST).
