The ninth edition of the ICC Womens T20 World Cup is all set to take place in a few months. Bangladesh, who posted the fourth edition in 2014, were given the hosting rights of the coming tournament. However, with the turmoil happening in Bangladesh, the questions were raised about the security of the teams, players, support staff, and everyone.

Hence, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a massive announcement and revealed the new hosts of the upcoming ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024. In the virtual meeting held on Tuesday, the ICC has now shifted the venues, and now the mega event will be held in the UAE.

A total of ten teams will take part in the coming ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024. The opening encounter will see a clash between England and South Africa on October 3. Two groups are divided into five teams each. A total of 23 games will take place in the tournament, while the final will take place on October 20.

Group A has Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B has Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa, and West Indies. The six-time champion Australia will host their title. The ICC has decided two venues in the UAE to host the games in the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024: Dubai and Sharjah.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made efforts to keep the hosting rights, and the government sought help through the United Nations (UN), but it didn’t work out. Hence, the BCB also agreed to the ICC’s decision eventually. Geoff Allardice, ICC Chief Executive, said, “It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event.”

Australia are the most successful team, as they have won six out of eight editions of the ICC Womens T20 World Cup. The tournament will be played in round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will make it to the semi-finals and then the final. Earlier, India also emerged as a possible hosting option, but BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that they are not planning to host the tournament.
