The Adelaide Oval is set to host the second Test between Australia and India, a pink-ball match with high stakes and a forecast of rain. A capacity crowd is expected on Friday despite the prediction of up to 7mm of rain, as Australia seeks to bounce back from a heavy defeat in Perth.

This match marks India’s first pink-ball Test in Australia since their infamous collapse for 36 at the same venue in 2020.

IND vs AUS Pink Ball Test Weather Conditions

Head curator Damian Hough, known for transforming the Adelaide Oval pitch into a more balanced contest between bat and ball, is keeping a close eye on the weather. Friday’s forecast includes thunderstorms, potentially leading to covers being used and causing delays. Hough remains optimistic that the weather will clear for the remainder of the Test.

Pitch Report Adelaide Oval Stadium

The pitch has been prepared with 6mm of grass, mirroring the conditions of the recent Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Stadium. That game, also affected by rain, ended in a draw but saw fast bowlers from both sides troubling the batsmen with the new ball. Hough aims to replicate Shield conditions for Test matches, ensuring a similar level of challenge and entertainment.

“Friday looks like it could be thunderstorms, and I’m not sure exactly on the timing of those storms coming through, but we’re expecting to pull covers on Friday. Hopefully, it clears out on Saturday morning, then it should be good for the remainder of the Test.”

“The Shield pitch showed if you didn’t get a new ball under lights, and you had a couple of set batters in, you’re able to see through some night-time cricket.”

“On the morning of day three, no one would have expected that Test match to finish in three days,” he said.
