The 2024-25 Indian domestic cricket season officially began today (5th September, 2024) with the Duleep Trophy 2024. The Duleep Trophy comes in with lots of benefits offering players a prime opportunity to showcase their skills ahead of India’s upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Additionally, it serves as a crucial platform for those aiming to cement their spots in the Indian squad for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

This year’s Duleep Trophy introduces a new format, moving away from the traditional zonal system where teams represented different regions. Instead, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented a four-team setup, with the teams named A, B, C, and D. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, and the team with the most points at the end of all matches will be crowned champions, eliminating the need for knockout stages.

India A vs India B: Pitch & Weather Report

The upcoming first-class match at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is expected to offer a balanced pitch for red-ball cricket, similar to previous matches played there. Historically, the surface provides something for both batters and bowlers, though it can flatten out, offering assistance to spinners as the game progresses. In the last Test held at the venue, between India and Sri Lanka in 2022, India managed to score over 250 runs in both innings, while Sri Lanka found it tough and succumbed to a heavy defeat, losing by 238 runs.

While the pitch is generally flat, the possibility of rain could bring some moisture, which might help the fast bowlers early on, especially in the initial overs. However, as the moisture evaporates, the conditions may gradually shift in favor of spin bowlers. Weather will be a key factor in how the pitch behaves throughout the match, and teams might need to adapt accordingly.

There onwards, we witnessed something really brilliant from Sarfaraz Khan’s little brother Musheer Khan. Although Sarfaraz couldn’t contribute much, his younger brother Musheer Khan ended the day’s play unbeaten after scoring a brilliant century. Despite just 19, Musheer has been a brilliant batter just like his brother in all of domestic cricket.
