India Achieves Top Position in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

India emerged victorious over New Zealand by 44 runs in the decisive match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, securing the top spot in the tournament standings. The game saw India defending a total of 249 runs by restricting New Zealand to a score of 205 in 45.3 overs.
A critical player in India’s success was Varun Chakravarthy, who managed to capture five wickets and was subsequently named the Player of the Match. His exceptional performance played a significant role in curbing the New Zealand batting lineup.
Hardik Pandya, contributing both with bat and ball, applauded Varun Chakravarthy and the team’s efforts through his social media platforms. Pandya made a notable contribution of 45 runs and took one wicket, demonstrating his all-round capabilities.
From New Zealand’s side, Kane Williamson was the top scorer, managing to put up an impressive score of 81 runs off 120 balls. Despite his efforts, the team could not reach the target set by India.
Other significant performances included Shreyas Iyer scoring 79 runs and Axar Patel adding 42 runs along with taking a crucial wicket. Matt Henry stood out as New Zealand’s best bowler, taking five wickets which, however, fell short of leading his team to a win.
Following this win, India is set to face Australia in the first semi-final on March 4 in Dubai, while South Africa will take on New Zealand in the second semi-final in Lahore on March 5.
Previously in the tournament, India showcased strong performances including a stellar game where Shubman Gill scored a century and Mohammed Shami took five wickets against Bangladesh. Additionally, Virat Kohli’s century against Pakistan dominated headlines as India triumphed over their strong rivals.
