The Indian cricket team has arrived in the Caribbean Islands for the Super 8s phase of the T20 World Cup 2024, after finishing at the top of Group A with an unbeaten record in New York. Team India’s final group match against Canada in Lauderhill, Florida, was washed out due to rain, and the team now faces a significant change in conditions as they aim for a spot in the semi-finals.

The challenging drop-in wicket at Eisenhower Park, Nassau County Stadium, posed difficulties for India and other teams. However, at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, where India will play their first two Super 8 matches, batting conditions are expected to be more favorable. This venue has consistently hosted high-scoring games throughout the tournament.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is eager to begin the second stage of the tournament on a strong note. “There is a real eagerness within the team to achieve something special. This enthusiasm is a positive way to start the second stage. It shows that everyone wants to make a significant impact, and we take our practice sessions very seriously, aiming to accomplish something each time,” Sharma told BCCI.TV during the team’s first practice session in Barbados ahead of their opening Super 8 match against Afghanistan on June 20, Thursday.

Rohit Sharma Talk About Tight Super 8s Schedule

However, Sharma also acknowledged the tight schedule between games, noting the need to be at their best across three fixtures. After playing Afghanistan (June 20) and Bangladesh (June 22) in Barbados, India will travel to St. Lucia for their final Group 1 Super 8 match against Australia on June 24.

“Once we start with our first game, we will have the next two games within three or four days. It’s going to be a bit hectic, but we are prepared. We are accustomed to traveling and playing frequently, so that will never be an excuse,” Sharma added.

Team India finished top of their group, Group A in the first stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 being co-host by USA and West Indies. Team India remained unbeaten in the competition, winning the first 3 matches against Ireland, Pakistan and USA respectively before their last group match vs Canada was washed out due to rain.
