India delivered an outstanding performance in the fifth and final T20I against England in Mumbai, claiming victory by a massive 150 runs. This victory sealed a 4-1 series win for the hosts, showcasing their formidable strength in the shortest format of the game.

Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer, lighting up the Wankhede Stadium with a stellar batting display. He smashed 135 runs off just 54 balls, a knock that included 13 sixes and seven fours, helping India set a daunting target of 248 runs for England. Sharma’s performance wasn’t confined to his batting alone, as he also contributed with the ball by taking two wickets, further undermining England’s efforts to chase the monumental target.

In response, England’s batting line-up struggled to find footing against a clinical Indian bowling attack. Phil Salt managed to put up a fight, recording the fastest T20 half-century by an English player against India, finishing with a score of 55. Unfortunately for the visitors, only Salt and Jacob Bethell managed to reach double figures, underlining the team’s struggles on the pitch.

England’s performance not only resulted in a series defeat but also marked their heaviest-ever loss in T20 history. Despite some notable efforts with the ball, including Brydon Carse’s 3-38 and Mark Wood’s 2-32, the English bowlers failed to contain India’s aggressive batting.

Post-match, England’s captain Jos Buttler acknowledged the need for significant improvements while praising Sharma’s exceptional performance. Former England captain Sir Alastair Cook also commented on the team’s ineffective bowling strategy on the slow wickets of Mumbai.

Looking forward, England will aim to recover and regroup before facing India again in a three-match ODI series beginning in Nagpur. This upcoming series presents an opportunity for redemption and adjusting strategies against the hosts who have shown impressive form on home soil.
