After winning the toss, India opted to bowl first in overcast conditions, taking full advantage of the swinging ball. Bangladesh’s openers faced a tough time at the crease, with Zakir Hasan struggling to get off the mark, eventually falling to Akash Deep after a 24-ball duck.

Shadman Islam, despite looking more composed, managed 24 runs before Akash trapped him LBW, delivering a sharp and disciplined spell. Mominul and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (31) then steadied the innings, putting together a 51-run partnership for the third wicket.

Ravichandran Ashwin finally broke the stand, dismissing Shanto for 31, leaving Bangladesh at 107/3. Persistent rain soon followed, and match officials called stumps early on Day 1.
