The year 2024 comes to an end and it was full of action for the Indian cricket team with lots of things happening throughout. Whether it is forgetting all woes of the 2023 World Cup to win the T20 World Cup 2024, to the whether it is the dominant Test series victory at home vs England, or whether it is Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as Team India’s head coach replacing Rahul Dravid, it was a packed year.

Team India ends the year 2024 down under in Australia as they playing ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series with the final match of the series, the 5th Test, is to be played from 3rd January in 2025.

Just the like the year 2024, 2025 promises to bring a lot cricket action for the Indian cricket fans. Obviously it includes the final Test match vs Australia in Sydney, but there is also important event of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in Pakistan. In this article, we take a look at all of Team India’s upcoming matches/series in the year 2025.

January, 2025

Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025

First-up for the Indian team will be to somehow register the much needed victory in the 5th and the final match of the 5-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. Australia took the lead in the series winning the Boxing Day Test to take a 2-1 lead. 

Team India now needs to win the 5th match to remain in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 Final. Also if India manages to win the next match, the series will 2-2, which means Team India will retain Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they are the defending champions.

England tour of India 2025 (5 T20Is, 3 ODIs)

Team India’s first proper challenge of the year 2025 will be England at home. The English team will visit India for a proper white ball series that consists of 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. The series commences from 22nd January with the 1st T20I in Kolkata. That is followed by the next matches in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and the final T20I in Mumbai on 2nd February.

The ODI series commences on the 6th February with the opening ODI match to be played in Nagpur. The following two matches are to be played in Cuttack and Ahmedabad on 9th and 12th February respectively. That will include the England home series.

February – March, 2025

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan

After the England challenge, Team India will be taking part in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. The tournament is making its return to the ICC events list after its last edition was played in the year 2017.

Team India will be part of Group A that consists of teams like hosts Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Note that, all of Team India’s matches in the tournament will be played in Dubai as BCCI rejected to visit Pakistan to play in the tournament.

The 2013 champions will begin their campaign on the 20th February vs Bangladesh. That will then follow the big match vs Pakistan on 23rd February followed by the final group stage match vs New Zealand on 2nd March. In case Team India finishes in top 2 in their group, they will qualify for the semi-finals and then have the opportunity to go to the final on 9th March.

March – May, 2025

IPL 2025

After the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Team India will then have a long break before their next series. However, Indian will be taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition that will be played between March 14 to May 25.

June, 2025

Potential World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 Final, depending upon qualification.

June – August, 2025

India tour of England 2025 (5 Tests)

After the IPL, Team India will assemble again as they will be travelling to England for the 5 match Test series away from Home in England. The series will commence on the 20th of June with the 1st Test match schedule in Leeds. That will be followed by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and the 5th Test matches in Birmingham, London, Manchester and then back to London. The 5th Test in London will be played at the Kennington Oval from 31st July and the series will conclude on the 4th August with the conclusion of the 5th Test match.

August, 2025

India tour of Bangladesh 2025 (3 T20Is, 3 ODIs)

After the England away Test series, Team India will switch to the white ball format and travel to Bangladesh for 3 T20Is and 3 ODI matches. The series will commence on the 3rd week of August. As of writing this, there is no schedule released yet.

West Indies tour of India 2025 (2 Tests)

Asia Cup 2025 (T20I)

The Asia Cup 2025 edition will also be played in October month in India. The tournament will consist of 6 teams divided into 2 groups of 3 teams each. That will followed by the Super Four stage with top 2 teams from both groups qualifying for the stage. The top 2 teams in Super Four stage then qualifies for the Final. There is potential of 6 matches in the tournament for the teams that reach the final. Schedule has not been released yet.

October – November, 2025

India tour of Australia 2025 (5 T20Is, 3 ODIs)

After the Asia Cup 2025, Team India will head to down under in Australia, this time for a white ball series. India will play 5 T20Is as part of the series, preparing for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The series will also consist of 3 ODI matches. All these matches will be played from October last week till November. No schedule has been released yet.

South Africa tour of India (2 Tests, 5 T20Is, 3 ODIs)

Team India will end the year 2025 with a mega home series vs South Africa. The series will consist both the red ball and white ball action. We have 2 Test matches followed by 5 T20Is and a further 3 ODIs. This series is most likely to be played from 3rd/4th of week November, leading upto the end of the year on December.
