The second Super Sunday match in IPL 2025 is the season’s greatest contest. On March 23, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the El Clasico. The contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. Indian Standard Time (IST) at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, will miss this match because he is serving a ban for slow overrate from last season. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the team in the first match of the season till Hardik returns for the next match.

Mumbai Indians have not won their IPL season opener in the past 12 years.

Opening Pair

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton will start the inning with their aggressive style. Indian captain Rohit Sharma does not need an introduction. He has been part of MI since 2011 and is the franchise’s key player. Last season he played 14 matches and scored 417 runs with one century and one half-century.

On the other hand, the South African keeper will make his debut; he is also known for his aggressive inning. He is playing for MI’s sister franchise, MI Cape Town, in SA20. This season he scored 336 runs in 8 matches by playing for MI Cape Town.

Tilak Varma in NO. 3

Tilak Varma is one of the best youngsters in IPL. Now he is a regular part of the Indian T20 squad; since 2022, he has been part of this franchise. Last season he scored 416 runs in 13 matches, where he scored 3 half-centuries with a strike rate of 149.

Middle-order

Surya Kumar Yadav will lead MI in this match due to the absence of regular captain Hardik Pandya. He is known for his firepower and aggressiveness while batting. Last season he played 11 matches and scored 345 runs, including a century and 3 half-centuries.

Naman Dhir made his debut last season with the Mumbai Indians, where he played only 7 matches, scored 140 runs, and was able to score one half-century.

Robin Minz can make his debut with Mumbai Indians this season. The young wicketkeeper impresses everyone with his skills in the domestic matches and MI management is looking forward to him for a great season.

Mitchell Santner brings lots of experience with him. He was part of CSK in previous years but he did not get enough chances there. This season he can be an asset for the MI team.

Bowlers

Deepak Chahar is known for his swing bowling and perfect line and length delivery. Last season was not good for him; he suffered some injuries also. But in 8 matches, he took 5 wickets in the previous season.

Karan Sharma could be a very impactful bowler on Chennai’s spin-friendly pitch. He has good experience in domestic and IPL, which will be a good point for the team. Last season he was part of RCB, where he took 7 wickets in 9 matches.

Trent Boult, the swing star, is making his comeback with the Mumbai Indians after 2021. In his previous years with MI, he played 29 matches and took 38 wickets. He can make a great partnership with Deepak Chahar.

The Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman brings lots of experience from different countries’ leagues. The last two seasons were not good for him; he only got the chance to play 3 matches and only took two wickets.

Impact Player

Satyanarayana Raju, the young Indian bowler, could be a great option while defending the total.
