India has a rich history of iconic partnerships in ICC ODI finals, and the recent Champions Trophy final in 2025 has added another memorable chapter. During the match held on March 9 in Dubai, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made a significant impact by putting up a solid 105-run partnership. This effort came as India chased a target of 252 runs set by New Zealand, who posted 251/7 in their innings.

Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role by scoring 76 runs, while his partner Shubman Gill contributed 31 runs to the partnership. This robust opening stand worked as a steady foundation for India’s chase in the final.

Historically, India has been known for some stellar partnerships in ICC ODI finals. For instance, in the 2000 Champions Trophy final, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar achieved India’s highest ever partnership in such a clash with a 141-run stand. Although this performance set a high benchmark, India ultimately lost the final against New Zealand.

Another unforgettable partnership occurred in the 2011 World Cup final. Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni crafted a crucial 109-run partnership to help India successfully chase down a target of 275 against Sri Lanka. The innings ended on a high note with MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 91, which secured India’s victory and the World Cup title.

In the 2003 World Cup final, India faced Australia, and a notable 88-run stand was shared between Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. Despite their efforts, India couldn’t surpass Australia’s score. The 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan saw an 80-run partnership between Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, although India was eventually bowled out for 158.
