IPL 2025: Chennai Super Kings marginally missed the opportunity to qualify for the playoffs in the IPL 2024 and finished in fifth place. But the five-time champions will look to bounce back in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). However, before that, the franchise has to make some bold decisions.

There is a mega auction scheduled for the IPL 2025, and all ten teams will be allowed a maximum of 4-5 players. CSK has a star-studded side, and it will be a tough decision for them to make a decision on releasing the players. But that’s the rule, and every franchise has to follow it. So let’s talk about the probable list of players to be retained by CSK ahead of the IPL 2025.

IPL 2025: List of players to be retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2025

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Since joining CSK in 2021, Gaikwad has been the best player for the five-time champions. He played a major role in CSK’s success in the last few seasons, which is why he was given the captaincy in 2024. Gaikwad did pretty well and finished as the second-highest scorer after Virat Kohli in the IPL 2024. Hence, Gaikwad is likely to be CSK’s first retention in the IPL 2025.

2. Ravindra Jadeja

An Indian player with the ability to win matches in all three departments is very rare, and Ravindra Jadeja is equipped with this skillset. That is why he is a valuable asset for the five-time champions. He has been part of the Yellow Army since 2011, and as he has retired from T20Is, he can focus entirely on the IPL in this format. Hence, CSK is likely to retain Jadeja as well in the IPL 2025.

3. Matheesha Pathirana

It is not a wrong statement to say that CSK played a massive role in grooming Matheesha Pathirana as a bowler. He has been part of the team since 2022 and has been their strike bowler. CSK has used him brilliantly, and now he has become a matchwinner with his ability to take wickets and contain batters in the final overs. So, CSK might not take the risk to release him because there will be other franchises as well looking for him.

4. Devon Conway

The fourth retention can be tricky for CSK because there are a number of star players and there is no clarity on MS Dhoni’s participation in the coming seasons. That’s why Devon Conway can be a surprise retention. He has been a core player for the Yellow Army. Conway also gives the team the option of wicket-keeper if Dhoni retires.

5. Shivam Dube or MS Dhoni

Currently, the rule is for four retentions, and two RTM cards will be there for every team. If it happens, then CSK might look to have Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni in their team as well.
