IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals (DC) Latest Released and Retained Players List

Delhi Capitals have been part of the Indian Premier League from the very start in 2008. They have seen many ups and downs in this tournament. DC have only made to the finals once in 17 seasons, which was in 2020. They have made the playoffs six times. In the IPL 2024, they finished sixth place. With no major win in so many seasons, the Delhi-based franchise will be desperate in the coming edition.
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will be another electrifying season of this cash-rich league. This time, the new season will start with a mega auction, and some big superstars will be up for grabs at the IPL 2025 mega auction. As per the report, all teams will be allowed to retain a maximum of six players (including two using Right To Match cards).
DC, who are searching for their maiden title, have already made some changes to their coaching staff. They have parted ways with head coach Ricky Ponting, and Sourav Ganguly is likely to handle all these duties. But the biggest question is whom they will retain. In this article, we will talk about the players whom GT can retain and the list of released players ahead of the IPL 2025.
IPL 2025 Delhi Capitals (DC): Possible Retention
Player | Role |
Rishabh Pant | Wicketkeeper Batter |
Axar Patel | All-rounder |
Kuldeep Yadav | Bowler |
Tristan Stubbs | Wicketkeeper Batter |
Jake Fraser McGurk | Batter |
Prithvi Shaw | Batter |
1. Rishabh Pant

There was some news surrounding the franchise: they weren’t happy with captain and wanted to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, Parth Jindal denied all these claims and said that they will stick with Pant, which has cleared all the speculations. Pant has been with Delhi Capitals since his debut in 2016.
He is their leading run scorer and a consistent batter in the middle. The Southpaw has played 111 games for them and scored 3284 runs at an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of 148.93. Pant has also scored one century and 18 half-centuries for DC. He also gives the team captaincy and wicketkeeping options. That is why he will be the first-choice retention for the franchise in the IPL 2025.
2. Axar Patel

The Indian all-rounder had an incredible T20 World Cup 2024 for India. He overshadowed Ravindra Jadeja and played a crucial role in India lifting the title. The all-rounder has grown as a cricketer, and now he is a true match-winners in both departments, which is a very rare commodity in an Indian player.
That is why the franchise won’t take a risk to release him because three-dimensional Indian cricketers are very limited. Axar has played 82 matches for the franchise since 2019 and scored 967 runs and taken a total of 62 wickets for the franchise.
3. Kuldeep Yadav

Just like Axar, the wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is another name whom the franchise will be very happy to retain. He is India’s premier white-ball spinner and is one of the wicket-takers in this format. Kuldeeep joined Delhi Capitals in 2022, and his performances with the franchise helped him earn his spot back in the Indian team.
Since then, he has become a core member of the franchise. Kuldeep has played 39 games for them and taken 47 wickets at an economy rate of 8.13. On the pitches in India, he is very dangerous and has a number of variations that make it tough for the batters to pick him. That is enough for the franchise to put him on their retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
4. Jake Fraser McGurk

The Australian opener joined the team as a replacement in the IPL 2024 and made a massive impact straight away. He showed what a fearless mindset can do at the top of the order. The 22-year-old slammed three half-centuries, which included two off 15 balls and one off 19 balls.
Australia have already made him the replacement for David Warner, while Delhi Capitals can also do that. Warner has retired from international cricket, so DC will look to retain McGurk, who is still young and can be a very destructive batter at the top of the order. He scored 330 runs in just nine innings at a blistering strike rate of 234.04 in 2024.
5. Tristan Stubbs

The South African star joined Delhi Capitals in 2024 after the Mumbai Indians released him. He straight away made an impact at No. 5 or 6 and played some game-changing innings. Stubbs scored 378 runs in 13 innings at an average of 54 and an excellent strike rate of 190.90.
He also scored three half-centuries. Stubbs also showed his bowling skills, picking up three wickets in two innings. He can also keep wickets and is an excellent fielder. Overall, Stubbs is a utility cricketer who adds value in all departments. That might be the reason that Delhi Capitals might get him back with the Right to Match card at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
6. Prithvi Shaw

Another youngster that Delhi Capitals can think to retain is Prithvi Shaw. Though he was benched for most of the IPL 2024, but Shaw has been a key member of the franchise. He joined the franchise in 2018 and has been playing for them since then. After investing a lot in him, the franchise might look to have him back.
He is still young and has been performing well wherever he is playing. Shaw has played 79 matches for Delhi Capitals and scored 1892 runs at an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of 147.76, with 14 half-centuries. There are chances that the franchise will keep the opening pair of Jake Fraser McGurk and Prithvi Shaw for the IPL 2025 and release David Warner.
