IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Big Name Players Set to be Released on Retention Day

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 cricket league in the world. A total of 10 teams take part in the competition. A Mega Auction serves as a platform for the teams to build their team from scratch and IPL 2025 Mega Auction is going to be nothing different.
The IPL 2025 Mega Auction is going to be one of the most exciting team building event. While the mega auction serves as an opportunity for teams to build their side, it is also when teams are forced to let go of some the big names in their team.
The Mega Auction is set to be held in last week of November. But before that, all the 10 teams have to reveal the name of players they have opted to retain on the retention deadline day on 31st October. Before that, we take a look at some big names who may be released on the day.
Ishan Kishan

In a superstar filled team, Mumbai Indians‘ Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to released. With limited retention number, Mumbai won’t have a slot for Kishan. Ishan was bought back the franchise in the last mega auction for a whopping 15.25 crore.
Mitchell Starc
Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc played a crucial role in guiding the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 Trophy. Despite starting-off really bad, Starc displayed his true stature in the playoffs for the KKR after the franchise bought him for 24.75 crore, making most expensive buy in IPL auction history.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the best bowler in the history of the IPL. After taking 205 wickets in his IPL career, Chahal is once again set to be released by Rajasthan Royals, who finds no place for the 34-years-old in their retention list.
Glenn Maxwell

Australian superstar all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has enjoyed the best of his spell in the IPL with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). However, his recent form, particularly in the IPL 2024 season is why the 36-years-old will not find a place in RCB’s retention list. The Aussie was paid 11 crore IPL salary.
Quinton de Kock
South Africa’s left-hand wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock is one of the best batter from South Africa in the shorter format of the game. Despite that, De Kock is set to be released by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction after his recent struggles with the side.
David Warner
has over the years been one of the best batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Australian opener’s struggles were clearly visible for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 season. Warner was paid 6.25 crore at Delhi Capitals but is set to be released.
Rishabh Pant

Probably the biggest name in the list is the current Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant. Rumours have been circulating throughout the summer that the India wicket-keeper batter has mega offers from teams like CSK and RCB with other teams also interested in his services.
Although nothing is confirm yet, Rishabh Pant could be the biggest name that might be released by an IPL franchise on the retention day ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
